As we celebrate Black History Month, @properties Christie’s International Real Estate is excited to spotlight a variety of Black-owned businesses in Chicago, from a coffee shop that raises awareness for mental health to local restaurants and everything in between.

Keep reading to learn about 10 of our favorite Black-owned businesses to support this month and beyond, and check out our roundup from last year for more.

Ain’t She Sweet Cafe

With two locations in Chicago’s Bronzeville and Beverly neighborhoods, Ain’t She Sweet Cafe is a go-to for sandwiches, soups, salads, wraps, smoothies, and, of course, sweets. Owned by local mother-daughter duo Margot and Ayisha Stotter, the cafes serve up favorites like the Jerk Chicken Bowl and pound cake.

Coffee, Hip Hop & Mental Health

Enjoy a cuppa while supporting a good cause from mission-based Coffee, Hip Hop & Mental Health. Founded by Christopher LeMark, the organization aims to educate various communities about the importance of mental health by providing free group and individual therapy in high-poverty neighborhoods. The Normalize Therapy Cafe has a temporary location on the second floor of Lululemon in Lincoln Park, and a permanent location is opening at 1051 W. Belmont this spring! Coffee, Hip Hop & Mental Health also has merchandise available so you can show your support online.

Eb & Flow Yoga Studio

Eb & Flow Yoga Studio in Wicker Park is owned by Eboni “Eb” Howard and Peggy Howard Moore, and features an array of virtual and in-person classes for students of all levels, including power flow, slow flow, meditation, and more. New students can practice their first three weeks for just $30.

FruVé xPress Juicery

Take your health on the go with FruVé xPress Juicery, owned by Dominque Dunn. The Chicago-based juicery offers a mix of fresh cold press juices, smoothies, salads, soups, paninis, and acai bowls with a focus on nutrient-rich ingredients. You can get a taste at one of FruVé xPress Juicery’s locations in the South Loop, West Loop, or Hyde Park.

Luella’s Southern Kitchen

Chicago’s best Southern kitchen is calling your name! Located in Lincoln Square, Luella’s Southern Kitchen is inspired by owner and Chef Darnell Reed’s great-grandmother Luella, who moved from Mississippi to Chicago in 1943. First-timers should order the Shrimp and Grits and Luella’s Chicken Gumbo.

Plant Salon

Indulge in self-care when you shop at West Town’s Plant Salon, which brings together founder Nika Vaughan’s passions for the beauty industry and houseplants. The boutique is a lush, calming oasis that sells easy-to-carry plants and offers a range of products from indie beauty brands.

This one is dedicated to the pet owners! Boasting 10,000 square feet, PupStars Pet Care is the perfect spot to take your dog when he/she needs exercising or a place to hang while you’re at work or on a trip. Originally founded by Tara Robertson as a dog walking operation in 2006, PupStars now has additional services including cat care, training, and puppy parties for the newest member of your family.

Tea Pot Brew Bakery

Flavor meets love at Tea Pot Brew Bakery, where desserts are baked fresh daily in small batches. Owned by Veranda Runsewe, the South Loop bakery serves up beloved Pumpkin Cheesecake Muffins, Citrus Pound Cake, Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies, and an array of coffees, teas, and gelato. Custom cakes are made to order, and soups, sandwiches, quiches, and bagels are also served regularly. Any leftover produce gets donated to local shelters, so nothing ever goes to waste!

The Indigo Room

Dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of clients and providing an inclusive environment, The Indigo Room has a robust collection of hair, skin, and body services. The upscale salon is owned by Alexis Glasper, and also hosts free Styling Labs, where stylists teach the science of hair and how to style it over wine and light refreshments. Schedule your first appointment online or over the phone.

The Silver Room

Established in 1997 by owner Eric Williams, The Silver Room curates creative spaces where art, community, and culture intersect. The Hyde Park showroom hosts an arrangement of goods, sounds, and events from local designers, and aims to bring community together through new experiences. You can visit The Silver Room in person or shop online.
