Agent Spotlight: Anne Gain

If we had to pick one word to describe @properties agent Anne Gain it would be driven. Evidence of her hard work and determination abounds in her personal and professional efforts, from raising two kids (the lights of her life!) to earning a place amongst Michigan’s top producers.

If you’re ever in Three Oaks, Michigan visit one of Anne’s favorite places, Granor Farm, for a delightful farm to table meal and get to know more of her favorite things in this week’s Agent Spotlight.

What got you going in real estate?
My mother sold real estate in this area for 30 years. She had a wonderful reputation and loved by so many in the area. It made sense for me to follow in her footsteps

Before real estate, what were you doing that prepared you for your current job?
I worked at Stryker Medical in the Marketing/Sales Department – I acquired a multitude of experiences including contract negotiations, customer service, technical writing, and marketing.

What is your favorite part of working in real estate?
Every day creates both challenges and rewards – I love working with clients from all facets and walks of life.

What’s one thing you read every single day?
Inman (because they always have an article about Thad Wong and Michael Golden lol!)

Tell us the craziest thing that has ever happened to you on the job.
Oh boy…..I have so many great stories in this business, perhaps a book would be better.

What is one piece of advice you’d give to a new real estate agent?
Stay humble. Always focus on the client and make them feel like they are your only client. Never stop learning new things.

Who in the industry has made the most impact on your professional journey?
My mother. She was and continues to be such a positive impact on my life. She taught me how to be ethical, honest and always treat people fairly. She is amazing.

What are 3 words clients would use to describe you?
Honest, giving, and assiduous.

How do you start each day?
I try to start off each day writing at least 1 gratitude note – something I learned from Thad Wong who has been a remarkable role model and leader.

Tell us one thing about your very first home.
My 1st home was built in the early 1900’s and was in Kalamazoo, MI. I remember the “pink” bathroom and thought it would be the 1st thing I changed….but never did.

What do you love most about your neighborhood?
The people. My neighbors and nearby friends are amazing – this is the type of community I am proud to call “home.” I can walk and ride my bike to the downtown area, beaches, shops, restaurants, farmer’s market and always run into clients, friend, family, etc.

How do you stay involved in your community?
I started my own little gig that I call “RAK – Random Act of Kindness”…..Basically intended to do good things for people who are less fortunate and could use a little lift in their day. Can be anything from donating an appliance, to assisting with medical costs, to buying a family’s groceries. I always ask the recipient to simply pass along a good deed, even if just a hug or smile for someone having a bad day.

You have a full day free in your town with no obligations and cost is no object. What do you do?
A full free day?!?

If you won the lottery which property would you buy and why?
I would keep my downtown St. Joseph home as I truly love it! But I would buy a second place someplace tropical to get away in the winter.

3 things you always bring with you to a showing and why?
My phone, food (because I am Type-1 diabetic and hate to get stranded without food), and details on the property.

What was one of your most defining moments?
When the market was down in 2009, I was a single mother working 3 jobs. It was a very challenging year but also made me realize I had the will to be very successful. I was determined, focused and persistent.

What did you eat for breakfast today?
Yogurt & berries, and of course coffee.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Healing. Would love to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes. I have had this for 40 years. In numerous ways, it’s made me a much stronger individual and I try to pass along encouragement and my experiences to others with T1.
