Homes that Go the Distance: Six Residences Near the Chicago Marathon Route

This Sunday morning, thousands of runners from around the world will take to Chicago’s streets during the 45th annual Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The event is one of the largest of its kind, with more than 45,000 runners set to make the 26.2-mile trek through 29 Chicago neighborhoods, while an estimated 1.7 million spectators line up to cheer them on.

In honor of Sunday’s event, we present six homes currently on the market along the marathon route.

Mile Marker 1: 225 N. Columbus Dr., #6105

This three-bedroom, three-bath home near the marathon’s starting line sits high above the city in the Jeanne Gang-designed Aqua tower. The 61st-floor residence offers 2,000 square feet of newly refreshed space, with floor to ceiling windows that provide breathtaking northeast lake and city views. The large living room and separate dining area are accented by a large balcony facing Millennium Park, Lake Michigan and the cityscape. Owners have access to one of Chicago’s largest outdoor sundecks, with a pool, cabanas, fire pits, grills, herb garden, and a running/walking track, along with an indoor fitness center, billiards room, basketball court, party room, movie theater, sauna, steam room and business center. This home is just a short walk from Magnificent Mile restaurants and shopping.

Mile Marker 4 & 12:  883 N. LaSalle Dr.

If you’re a marathon fan, this charming single-family Gold Coast row home is the place to be. Just step outside your door to watch the runners as they head out to the north, then make their way back south toward the finish line. The century-old three-bedroom home oozes charm at every turn, carefully renovated with traditional features that retain the home’s original feel, including a bright red front door and custom millwork throughout. Perfect for entertaining, the home features a full roof deck with a wet bar and views of the skyline, a large, updated recreation room with built in speakers, and a walk-in, 200+ bottle temperature-controlled wine cellar. The home is within walking distance of Washington Square Park, Lake Michigan beaches, and many of Chicago’s best restaurants and bars.

Mile Marker 10:  2347 N. Cleveland Ave.

Only steps from the marathon’s route as it makes its way through Lincoln Park, this new-construction 7-bedroom home on landmarked Cleveland Avenue has been crafted with meticulous attention to detail, with high-end designer finishes and custom cabinetry throughout. Notable design elements include a primary bathroom that boasts a steam shower and a separate sauna, as well as wet bars in multiple entertainment areas. This sprawling 8,800-square foot home on an extra-wide lot includes just about every modern amenity one could want, including heated floors in each full bathroom and the lower level, a custom elevator servicing each level, a 500+ bottle wine room, an enormous deck with an outdoor kitchen and fireplace, and a heated driveway.

Mile Marker 14 & 17: 203 S. Sangamon St., #303

In the heart of the vibrant West Loop and surrounded by an abundance of green space, this loft sits on a quiet block, squarely between the marathon’s main east-west routes of Adams Street and Jackson Boulevard. The two-bedroom, two-bath condo offers the perfect blend of modern luxury and urban convenience. Touches like exposed brick and steel beams add character, while southern exposure, oversized windows, and soaring ceilings flood the home with an abundance of natural light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout. The second-floor lofted primary bedroom features an en-suite bathroom and an organized walk-in closet, while the second bedroom is fully enclosed with a glass transom window, making it a great space for guests, an in-home office, or a growing family. This home is just a short walk from bustling Fulton Market and Greektown.

Mile Marker 24:  3120 S. Indiana Ave., #106

Near the southernmost end of the marathon route, this two-bedroom, two-bath residence in Bronzeville is just one block east of the IIT campus. The condo features an open floor plan with floor to ceiling windows, generous living and dining space, a private outdoor patio and a kitchen with stainless steel appliances, tile backsplash and tons of storage. One heated garage space is included with the home, while the building is full of amenities including an indoor pool, party room, rooftop deck and exercise facilities.
