A Growing Pool of Home Buyers

With all the time spent at home over the past year, it’s no surprise that people are reevaluating what they want in their real estate– both indoors and out. And as homebuyers look for a retreat, the luxurious features and amenities that were previously considered extras have become all the more appealing. Among those is an outdoor pool.
“A house with a pool has a broader audience now than it did in the recent past,” said Jorge Abreu, vice president of brokerage services for @properties’ Glencoe and Highland Park offices. Abreu said he expects this trend to endure as buyers continue to search for their own personal oases.
On the North Shore, for example, sales for homes with pools have increased more than 50% over the last 12 months, according to data from MRED. Meanwhile, throughout the country, homes with pools in many cases are selling at a premium.
While there is strong demand for this type of property, sellers should keep in mind that the condition of the home is just as important when it comes to attracting buyers.
“Although the market is moving quickly, there is still a desire to have a home that is well-cared for and more updated. Buyers aren’t necessarily going to pay up if the property doesn’t meet certain expectations,” said Keri Cook Falls, vice president of brokerage services for @properties’ Lake Forest and Bannockburn offices.
