The Top Chicago-Area Home Sales of 2020

2020 was a surprisingly strong year for luxury home sales. We saw a number of multi-million-dollar sales in both the city and suburbs of Chicago, with a number of transactions topping the $5 million mark. Winnetka’s luxury market was particularly hot, with the town accounting for four of the top 10 sales across Chicagoland.

@properties co-founders Mike Golden and Thad Wong attribute the increase in upper-bracket sales to a number of factors, including stock market gains that have padded the net worth of affluent homebuyers and a desire for more space – indoors and out – amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The duo also notes that many of the properties at the top of the market are trading well below replacement cost, meaning buyers are finding value in the high-end market and seizing the opportunity.
