At Work with Carrie Goodman

How did you land in a real estate career?

From 2004-2007, I was a mobile notary loan closer during ‘the bubble’ and learned a lot about the title and mortgage business. In 2011, I needed to make a career change and decided that real estate would be a good fit for me.

If this is a second, third or nth career, what were you doing previous to real estate?

For three years prior to becoming a realtor, I worked at the Viking Cooking School in the Abt Design Center. I was the culinary store manager. I worked side by side with chefs and learned so much about cooking. It turned me into a foodie!

What is your favorite part of working in real estate?

I get to meet some amazing people– buyers, sellers, and agents, some of which have become very good friends of mine.

What is one thing you literally could not do your job without?

My cell phone, I’m one of those people.

Tell us the craziest thing that has ever happened to you on the job.

I was once in a house that had the most amazing sports and celebrity memorabilia I have ever seen! I snuck a few pictures.

What is your proudest achievement to date?

In 2017 I received the coveted Road to the Rolex from @properties for achieving $10 million in annual sales, I was so humbled and honored! I cherish that watch.

What is one piece of advice you’d give to a new real estate agent?

Stay hungry! If you don’t you will be replaced by another hungry agent.

At Home with Carrie Goodman

What neighborhood do you live in?

I live in Buffalo Grove.

What do you love most about your neighborhood?

It was the home to raise my kids in, but I stayed there long after. I’ve made life long friends there.

Describe your own first home.

The first home I ever owned was a townhouse in Wheeling, IL. There was a pool in the subdivision right across the street. It was the best babysitter for my kids when they were little.

What is the first big-ticket item you bought when you moved into your current home?

I bought a big purple sectional couch. It was the centerpiece of my family room and the ‘hang out’ spot for my kid’s teenage years. My house was the sleepover home because of that couch.

What was one of your most defining moments?

The sudden loss of my husband and children’s father in 2007. It profoundly changed our paths but our unity, strength and love has brought us to a place where we have joy and gratitude in our life.

At Play with Carrie Goodman

How do you start each day?

Nothing happens until I get coffee.

What do you read every single day?

The Skimm.

What did you eat for breakfast today?

Dannon Greek Yogurt.

What is your favorite local restaurant? What is one amazing dish you always order?

Everyone knows The Continental in Buffalo Grove. The owner is very philanthropic in the community. My favorite thing there is the Grecian Chicken Kabob Sandwich. I’ve tried to recreate it but I couldn’t.

How do you stay involved in your community?

I am an active member at my Synagogue and help to plan the yearly Women’s Seder. I will also be a sponsor in 2019 BG Pride Parade.

You have a full day free in your town with no obligations and cost is no object. What do you do?

There are many trails to walk through– I would enjoy some time with Mother Nature then meet some friends at Starbucks for a coffee.

What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?

The fortune is in the follow-up!

If you won the lottery which property would you buy?

I would buy a gorgeous penthouse condo in downtown Arlington Heights. Everything is walkable.

What are 3 words clients would use to describe you? 3 words your family would use?

Patient, kind and engaging.

If I weren’t a real estate agent, I would be…

I would go back to the culinary business.
