8 Things to Do on Father’s Day in Chicago

This Father’s Day, give your dad a break from manning the grill and make a reservation in downtown Chicago instead.

Whether your father is a carnivorous foodie, an avid golfer or an art aficionado, there are still plenty of plans to be made at some of the city’s best restaurants and events.

Whether you’re planning to venture out for an afternoon of golfing and grilling or simply want to treat dad to a massive dry-aged steak (we’re talking 40+ ounces here), we have the idea that will fit the bill.

Big Steak

This Sunday, treat dad to the biggest & best cuts of steak Maple & Ash has to offer. Available by request only, Maple & Ash will be offering a special off-the-menu Spinalis or Ribeye Cap.

They’ll also be grilling up The Eisenhower, a 40+ ounce, 28 day dry-aged, USDA Prime Porterhouse and the 30-ounce, 28-day Dry Aged Tomahawk.

Yes, you read that right.

If you’re heading to Maple & Ash on Sunday, you might want to think about skipping breakfast.

Maple & Ash, 8 W Maple St, 10:00 am-2:00 pm, 5:00 pm-10:00 pm.

Vintage Garage

A special Father’s Day retro-themed market awaits you at Vintage Garage this weekend.

Take in the collections classic cars parked out front before you make your way in to peruse the vintage vinyls, stereo, and musical gear.

This one is perfect for the procrastinator because you can grab dad’s gift while you’re shopping and make an event of it.

Vintage Garage, 5051 N Broadway, 10:00 am-5:00 pm.

Outstanding Omakase

Is dad a sushi lover? Roka Akor’s Father’s Day offerings are right up his alley.

This Sunday, they’ll be offering two Omakase packages: the Signature Omakase ($98) and the Decadent Omakase ($128).

Enjoy the freshest seafood, dry aged steak and yes, there’s a dessert that may or may not contain bourbon.

Reservations are strongly recommended. We’d say, make that really strongly recommended.

Roka Akor, 465 N Clark St, 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

Art in the Park

The Gold Coast Art Fair will be taking place in Grant Park this weekend.

The art fair welcomes more than 300 artists from all around the world to showcase their work in beautiful Grant Park.

Grant Park is pretty beautiful on its own, so we think this is as good an excuse as any to get over there.

There will also be demonstrations by artists, live music, & interactive art projects. Take a walk through Maggie Daley Park too — you’ll need those extra steps to work off the steak.

Gold Coast Art Fair, Grant Park, 10:00 a.m, – 6:00 p.m.

Peruvian Feast

Get ready for the ultimate Peruvian Father’s Day Feast at Tanta Chicago.

Executive Chef Jesus Delgado will be preparing a full feast featuring dishes such as Cebiche Barrio, Empanada de Picante, and plenty more.

Reservations are available for both brunch and dinner. We’re thinking about going tonight to test things out…you know, for quality control.

Tanta Chicago, 118 W Grand Ave, from 5:00 p.m.

Garden Tour

Does dad have a green thumb?

If so, you might want to check out The Edible Gardens Workshop hosted by Green City Market.

You and dad will have a chance to check out the organic garden growing right in the heart of Lincoln Park Zoo.

You’ll also learn lots of tips & how-to’s for healthier eating and growing your own food.

The Edible Gardens Workshop, LP Zoo’s Farm-in-the-Zoo, 9:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.

Food & Music

Looking to show dad the magic of a Chicago summer street fest?

You’re in luck, as Taste of Randolph Street will be taking place this Father’s Day weekend.

Over 18 of Chicago’s finest restaurants will be featured plus a lineup of the nation’s hottest up-and-coming musicians.

Come for the burgers, stay for the late-night jam session.

Taste of Randolph Street, 900 W Randolph Street.

Golfing & Grilling

We know it’s cliched, but what’s a good old fashioned Father’s Day without golf?

I | O at The Godfrey, Chicago’s largest indoor/outdoor rooftop lounge, invites all dads to show off their putting skills & take in a sprawling buffet this Father’s Day.

All of dad’s favorite dishes will be served and he’ll have the chance to golf while taking in sweeping city views.

What more could he ask for?

IO Godfrey, 127 W. Huron. 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
