Dyeing of the Chicago River – Saturday, March 11th

It doesn’t get any more traditional than this. Before the Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the Journeyman Plumber’s Local Union 130 will dye the Chicago River green. Don’t fret; the dye is fish-friendly and the river returns to its usual shade by nightfall.

Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade – Saturday, March 11th

If you made it downtown to see the river dyed green, chances are you’ll want to stay for the annual parade which features plenty of bagpipes, drum corps, Irish dancers, and all things you associate with the holiday. Leprechaun Leap 5K/8K Run – Saturday, March 11th  

If you’re hoping to get some exercise in before you partake in the usual festivities of the holiday, you’re in luck! The Leprechaun Leap is taking place in the morning before the parade. St. Patrick’s Festival – Saturday, March 11th

Celebrate all things Irish at the annual St. Patrick’s Festival hosted by the Irish American Heritage Center. The festivities last from noon to midnight so you’ll have the opportunity to head over after the parade. St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon Cruises – Saturday, March 11th

If you’re looking to cruise the green river on St. Pat’s weekend, Shoreline Sightseeing has you covered. On March 11th they are offering three St. Patrick’s Day themed cruises, each featuring a traditional Irish buffet, cash bar, and 75-minute tour of all three branches of the Chicago River.
