Quality Time Series: @home

Home isn’t just where you hang your hat at the end of the day. It’s a safe space for you to be yourself, connect with your family and friends, and detox from chaotic days with packed schedules. When lounging at home, it’s easy to snuggle up with your favorite throw pillow and marathon Netflix, but what about when you want a little something more? Check out these great ways to spend quality time with your family in the comfort of your own home.

Indoor Picnic

It’s not always easy to get the entire family around the table for a meal and when you do, sometimes getting kids to talk about their day is more difficult than extracting wisdom teeth. One way to liven up a family meal is to host an indoor picnic. Set out a picnic blanket and basket of food and eat dinner just like you would if you were out in the park. Doing an activity like this can break up the routine nature of our day-to-day lives and an activity like this is certain to get your night off to a fun start.

Tie Dye Shirts

Another fun activity that you can do in your home is tie dying t-shirts. If your family is prone to making a mess like ours, we highly recommend the back yard! All you need for this are some cheap white t-shirts and a tie dye kit. Thankfully there are a ton of tie dye kits out there and places like Michaels have you covered.  Doing an activity like this can allow your family’s creativity to shine as everyone can make their own special designs.  Creativity aside, this is an awesome bonding experience since the whole family is doing it together and enjoying each other’s company.

Plan a Scavenger Hunt

This activity is so simple you probably wouldn’t even think about it. There’s a misconception that scavenger hunts are only for special events or hiding Easter eggs. Simply not true. For a truly fun night in, try creating a scavenger hunt inside the house for your family. Type up a list of everything that needs to be found and give it to everyone in your family. This is great because you have the option to get real creative, by providing clues and riddles that need to be solved to find the items. This can be an incredibly fun way to spend time with your family and prove that you’re not so boring after all.

Themed Movie Night

Movie nights are always great, but spice it up by having a themed movie night! Decide whatever you want your theme to be and truly go all out. Decorate the house so that it is aligned with the theme and if you want you can even go so far as costumes. This is a great activity because it’s really up to you how special you want to make the night. You can even make dessert that matches the movie theme. Let your creativity shine!

Photo Shoot

If you and your family are willing to give this one a shot there is a ton of fun to be had. Everybody loves messing around taking photos with props at weddings and special events, so why not bring that fun into your home?  Pick up some props from a party supply store and have at it. You can also break out those costumes from movie night if you’re really looking to make things interesting.

At the end of the day, the goal of all these activities is to help bring you and your family closer together.  Our time spent together as a family won’t last forever, especially as the kids grow up.  By making the most out of the time you do have together you can truly make memories that will last a lifetime.  You don’t need to spend a fortune to have fun, you truly just need good company and the willingness to enjoy it.
