Transitioning Your Home for Fall
As the weather gets cooler and the days shorter, it’s getting harder and harder to deny that fall is truly upon us. So while your favorite patio closes up shop for the year, it’s time to head home and embrace the season by making your home as comfortable and cozy as you can.
Here are a few quick tips to help transition your home for the fall season.
Pile on the throw blankets and pillows.
When getting home after an especially brisk day, there’s nothing better than bundling up in a warm, soft throw blanket, nestling into your couch and enjoying a few episodes (or entire season) of your favorite Netflix series.
Adding a throw pillow and blanket is an easy and inexpensive way to make fall a little less chilling, especially when in dark, jewel tones; wool or cashmere; or a herringbone pattern.

Layering rugs on rugs on rugs.
One of the worst parts of fall—and the looming winter—is icy cold floors. Beautiful hardwood floors might look divine but the extra cushioning and warmth of an area rug is a welcomed sight during these colder months.
Already have a great Turkish Kilim in your living room? Layer on a smaller faux fur for added coziness! There are no rules when layering rugs, so feel free to play with different patterns and textures. Just be sure the bottom rug extends past the first rug to show off the layering effect.

Prepare your fireplace.
While it might not be quite cold enough to start up your fireplace now, it’s always good to adhere to the Boy Scout motto of always being prepared. Make sure your fireplace is ready for its seasonal debut by contacting a professional to inspect and clean the fireplace and chimney before lighting your first fire.
Note: A technician who is F.I.R.E certified (Fireplace Investigation, Repair and Education) can provide an in-depth consultation and cleaning.

Light some candles.
It’s definitely starting to get darker earlier but why not enjoy it? Take advantage of the early nightfall and set the mood by lighting some scented candles around the house. Be sure to embrace those autumn aromas, such as sugar and spice, vanilla bourbon, or of course, pumpkin.
Remember, always keep a burning candle within sight and to always extinguish the candles when done using them.

Trade out your summer bedding.
Swapping in your heavy-duty down comforter and adding linens is not only a great way to welcome fall into your bedroom, but also to keep warm during those brisk nights. We recommend utilizing rich colors, plaids and prints in a variety of textures for maximum coziness.
If you have an all-white space, adding a heavy throw to the bottom of the bed will instantly give your room a more autumn feel.

Flowers
Flowers are a great way to truly celebrate the seasons by bringing the outdoors inside. Swap out your daisies and lilies for a stunning autumn bouquet.
Don’t forget to show your extended home some fall love as well by purchasing seasonal florae, such as mums and hydrangeas for your yard, patio, or balcony.
